State Board Updates

  

A new Executive Director for our state board has been named we would like to welcome Malik Hubbard.  We will be inviting him to our state convention for you to have a chance to meet him.

The board is in the process of reviewing and updating the rules. Before final approval we will be holding a public hearing on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 9 a.m. on the 31st floor of the Rife Building for anyone wishing to come and make a comment.

I hope we all renewed our professional and funeral home licensesby December 31, 2010.  If you have forgotten immediately take care of this situation, because you are in violation!

The application deadline for Executive Director (Ann Cunningham's position) is passed, we received about 70 applications.  Once the information is distributed to the committee the selection process will begin.

The Ohio Department of Health is conducting training sessions for the Fetal Death Report Certificate.  There are 15 training locations around the state, select a location near you.  To sign up for regional training, click on the link "Fetal Death Report Training" located at the Support Site http://vitalsupport.odh.ohio.gov, choose a date and sessions on the calendar, and provide the required information.  Training will be conducted between October 15 - December 14, 2010.  posted October 20, 2010

Directs, plans, coordinates & manages all internal & external operations & activities of the Ohio Embalmers and Funeral Directors Board as delegated by the Board as and/or required by Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 4717, Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 4717; directs programmatic activities (e.g., apprenticeship, examinations, licensing, renewal, continuing education & pre-need; enforces investigative responsibilities; supervises investigations & inspections, etc.), assists Board to regulate profession by enacting standards through initial and renewing licensure, inspections and investigations of  alleged violations & disciplinary actions (up to & including prosecution), administers & prepares annual budget,  attends & testifies at legal proceedings (e.g.,  hearings, in court , etc.), prepares materials for board hearings or appeals with the Ohio Assistant Attorney General, drafts proposed changes to the ORC & OAC,  acts as primary contact for news media, etc.  Acts as custodian of board records; oversees the collection, updates, maintenance and integrity of records on all Ohio licensees, etc.

Directs and supervises staff, oversees and directs all fiscal activities of the board, prepares reports, provides assistance and advice to board members to aid in decision making process, maintains contacts w/legislators, testifies before legislative committees, answers inquiries from the public, licensees, etc. regarding laws, rules, policies and procedures, etc.

- Completion of undergraduate core program, or above, in business/public administration, or equivalent, plus;

- 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in management principles/techniques and supervisory principles/techniques, 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in public relations, 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in budgeting, 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.

June 14, 2010 Lisa Bruns attended her first Board meeting as the new inspector for the western half of the state.  Lisa is replacing Inspector Mike Lyme who resigned in December 2009.  Those funeral homes in top half of the state will meet Lisa first before winter. Lisa is the first female to hold the position of inspector.  Lisa, welcome!

Governor Strickland has made his appointments to the state board effective July 1, 2010 as follows: The public senior member Linda M. Betzer; Chesterland (Geauga) was reappointed to a 5 year term ending June 30, 2015.  She was first appointed to complete an unfilled term.

Filling the position vacated by Pernell Jones, Sr. last June will be Robert C. Carter; Columbus (Franklin) for a 4 year term ending June 30, 2014. The final position vacated by Board President John Hadley whose term ended June 30, 2010 will be filled by Thomas T. Fleming; Jefferson (Ashtabula) for a 5 year term ending June 30, 2015.  John Hadley completed 3 terms on the state board.  We thank him for his service.
Pernell Jones, Sr. completed 2 terms on the state board.  It's a year later, but we thank Mr. Jones for his service.

Ann Cunningham, the Executive Administrator of the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors announced her retirement effective October 31, 2010.  We wish her well and thank her for the many years of service.  This open position will be posted and as information becomes available we will post it to this website.
